Osteoarthritis is degenerative joint disease, in which joint’s cartilage break down. Cartilage helps in movement of bones and they cushion the ends of the bone. Osteoarthritis leads to joint pain, tenderness, stiffness, crepitus.
According to Ayurveda the vitiated vata when takes shelter in Sandhistana causes pain, swelling, stiffness is known as sandhivata. The joining of two or more parts coming together is called sandhi. Though vata plays an important role in pathogenesis of sandhi vata infact, is is due to decreased kapha dosha.
In day to day activity joints provides mobility but because of aging, traumas, accidents, frequent use of joints, mal-alignment of joints, normal structure and functions of joint alters. For freely movement of any joint lubrication is required which is provided by shleshmadhara kala.
Causes of Osteoarthritis
1. It can be hereditary.
2. Due to taking of stale food.
3. Exposure to severe cold or hot weather.
4. Aging.
5. Excessive travelling.
6. Increased body fat.

1. Pain in joints.

4. Paint when moving or working.
5. Breathlessness.
